Standing in the middle of a paddock a young 11-year-old boy in his oversized Swanndri and Red band gumboots spent hours dreaming about growing massive trees in apple bins.  Years later, the dream is now Icon Trees. Mike set up Icon Trees in 2003 with a vision to grow the best trees in New Zealand. Our customers now describe our trees as world class.

From our Nursery in Ardmore, Icon Trees is focused on supplying high quality specimen trees and advanced hedges to the landscape industry.

Our environment is key to growing great trees. Ardmore has the perfect climate in a valley linking both coasts of Auckland.   The nursery receives coastal winds, winter frosts and summer temperatures regularly reaching mid to late 30degC. These climatic extremes enable Icon Trees to successfully ship trees throughout New Zealand.

At Icon Trees we have been growing world class trees for more than 18 years. In 2010 a purpose-built nursery was set up from a 20ha paddock. Our Icon Trees team pulled together their collective knowledge, Kiwi know-how and international observations to create the perfect place to grow our world class trees.

Every tree we grow must meet our premium grade standards – but not all make the cut. We hand-select each tree, grow it in premium soil media, and ensure it receives the best care as it grows. We have a team of skilled and knowledgeable staff keeping an eye on the trees. Now more than 80% of our trees are grown in reusable and recyclable pots. Our water is pure and sourced from our three bores on site, and we grow our trees on well-drained gravel.

We are currently moving from being accredited with an Australian Farm Management System to a New Zealand industry standard. This will ensure we continue to use best practice methods to grow our trees, while looking after the environment in which they grow.
